During ripening stage the seeds change color from green to brown. The stems and pods turn yellow and become more brittle as they dry. Using a swather, farmers cut the crop and lay it in rows. Once swathing is completed, the seeds ripen in the pods until they are ready to be harvested. The combines picks up the rows or swathes of canola and then threshes the dry pods to remove the canola seeds.
